Physiotherapy and Occupational therapy assistant program

Our Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapist Assistant diploma program primarily focuses on the growth and development of the human body and the different physiotherapy methods & techniques to support clients’ independence, activities, and help in proper physical functioning. In this program, students will learn the theory behind the practice of occupational therapy and physiotherapy. This program is accredited by the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant Education Accreditation Program (OTA & PTA EAP) in collaboration with Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (PEAC) and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).

Key Learning Outcomes and Skills

Our Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist Assistant diploma program primarily focuses on the growth and development of the human body and the different physiotherapy methods & techniques to support clients’ independence, activities, and help in proper physical functioning. In this program, students will learn the theory behind the practice of occupational therapy and physiotherapy. They will also be able to apply the acquired knowledge through clinical experiences and practicum sessions during placements.

The Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapist Assistant program educates you to support people whose ability to function and adapt has been impaired or compromised due to injury, illness, or conditions affecting participation in daily activities. After training in the diploma program, a mix of theoretical knowledge and practical experiences, the student will develop competencies and imbibe compassion to become client-centred and a rehabilitation practitioner prepared with the skills to grow in the dynamic health care field.

Faculty

The teaching staff will be experienced occupational therapists and physiotherapists with a high degree of expertise in the field to ensure every student has the educational tools, training, and hands-on experience necessary to meet challenges with professionalism, industry knowledge and skills. Expertise in academics and personalised attention to students are core features of the program.

Once the program is completed, the student will have the knowledge, skills to work for starters under supervised practice with registered occupational therapists and physiotherapists and understand rehabilitation services to improve the client’s quality of life.

Program Outline

Areas of instruction and development include respect and caring for individuals, effective communication, critical thinking, and decision-making.

Fieldwork will make your experience unique giving you skills in clinical settings.

The diverseness of placements will provide a uniqueness of what the future is and also help you experience what your career can entail and help discover your areas of interest.

As a diploma holder of the PTA & OTA program, you will accomplish vocational learning by demonstrating the ability to:

Effectively communicate through verbal, nonverbal, written, and electronic means.

Be a participant in the functioning of health care teams.

Always maintain and bring to a closure the client-centred therapeutic relationships.

Very importantly, practice in a legal and ethical manner.

Keep the client records properly and maintain them in an objective and accurate manner.

Also perform functions common to both physiotherapy and occupational therapy practices.

The student is equipped in conversational English and learns skills for necessary communicating in many different situations.

Business communication

Learn the 7 C’s of Communication. It helps a student to learn the specific vocabulary and communication skills necessary for interacting in English. All programs teach the following English grammar, reading, listening comprehensions, writing and vocabulary. It teaches how to interact between an employee and management to reach the organizational goals and excel.

This course prepares the student for both technical skills and soft skills for effective business communications. With the aid of technical tools and role-playing, the student will learn a variety of business writing frameworks that will help any organization communicate with clarity, sensitivity, and efficiency in today’s demanding business world.

Upon completion of this program, the successful student will be able to

  • Communicate across cultures and generations
  • Plan, write, revise and prepare written messages
  • Write and present a persuasive argument
  • Write various correspondences and be familiar with various forms of communication
  • Demonstrate effective business writing and presentation skills

Business Presentations and Practices

This 4 week program is formulated to give hands on experience and the tools a company needs to sell an idea or product for training purposes and to motivate the audience. This program is designed to establish your credibility right up in front of the executives and keep your audience focused and interested by creating effective business presentations.

This course provides hands-on experience on how to create exceptional business presentations using a variety of presentation software and deliver the presentations to the class with confidence. The student will deliver multiple presentations over 4 weeks and will get daily constructive feedback from both the instructor and fellow students.

Upon completion of this program, the successful student will be able to

  • Demonstrate best practices in business presentations
  • Demonstrate and recall key concepts of the Audience Intent Message
  • Write and present a persuasive argument
  • Use digital communications in an effective and professional manner (social media, mobile technologies, IM and text)
  • Demonstrate the ability to write and deliver an effective presentation

Course Duration

Preparation for IELTS varies from individual to individual. It can take 15 days to two months and depends on the efforts that a student or an individual puts in. The course is usually one month in duration. Classes are held twice a week and each class is three hours of duration.
